While a lot of people travel out of state for Spring Break I know there are a lot of families that stay home but still want to have a little getaway with the kids. Here is a list of great places to enjoy Spring Break in Colorado.
Plan Your Spring Break In Colorado
We are so lucky to live in such an amazing state. There are so many day trips for families or trips that take you from home for a few days. No matter what you decide to do, it is important to find the perfect destination for your family. Doing this will ensure that you have a great Spring Break getaway filled with some exploring, relaxing and lots of memories!
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the only mountain zoo in America. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is located on the lower slopes of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs. The drive from our house is about 2 hours so it isn’t a bad trip to get into the mountains. A very nice drive too. This zoo is special because it sits 6714 feet above sea level! I find that the animals are in great habitats in this zoo. Very natural and beautiful.
I think the most memorable part of this zoo is the Giraffe herd. Talk about up close and personal and educational! This is the largest Giraffe herd at any zoo and it is fun! These beautiful creatures walk right up to you and you become eye level with them. Amazing. This is the part that Jude remembers from his first visit to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and was excited to visit them again.
Great Wolf Lodge Colorado Springs
About 2 years ago, Colorado welcomed Great Wolf Lodge to our state and if you have not visited you need to book a winter family escape to Great Wolf Lodge Colorado Springs ASAP! Time to thaw out and enjoy the pool! When you book your trip to the Great Wolf Lodge, you also gain access to the weather proof waterpark! Here in Colorado that is a big deal. My kids LOVE going to the waterpark in the summertime but come winter it seems like the swimsuits take a vacation. With over 5 water slides, a wave pool, a fort tree house, and lily pad challenge the kids will be busy for hours. Well, let’s be honest, the adults will be as well.
Once you are in the lodge, you and your kids are kind of contained. This allows for a lot of family time but also time for everyone to enjoy their own favorites – be it mini golf, ropes course, swimming or even a spa! There is literally something for everyone to enjoy! Great Wolf Lodge Colorado Springs Address – 9494 Federal Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80921.
Visit Colorado Springs
When traveling around our beautiful state we have to remember to find attractions and activities that involve the kids as well. Thankfully Colorado Springs has a ton of options to choose from that are not only fun but educational. Check out our Top 5 Things To Do In Colorado Springs As A Family.
Visit The Denver Museums
Maybe you cannot go overnight this Spring Break. No worries, Denver has so many great museums to visit that not only entertain the kids but educate them at the same time. TripAdvisor has a great list to choose from. You could literally do a new museum every day of Spring Break. So fun!
9 Denver Day Trips To Add To Your Plans
Colorado is filled with amazing small towns, beautiful mountains, parks, and landmarks that are the perfect places for families to enjoy and explore. Most of these areas are the perfect day trip from Denver. Time to get some of these Denver Day Trips on your calendar. Now that the kids are getting older we are really hoping to do more day trips through out our beautiful city and state. Thankfully many of the landmarks, parks, small towns and beautiful mountains are close enough for a nice scenic drive and then plenty of time to enjoy exploring once in the area. While there are probably 100 Denver Day Trip options these are some of our favorites and ones we will be making this summer with the kids. Visit our list here – 9 Denver Day Trips For Families.
YMCA of the Rockies
Over the years you have seen us share our trips to the YMCA of the Rockies. There are two different locations in Colorado – Estes Park and Winter Park. Both locations are perfect for any Spring Break trip.
While at the YMCA of the Rockies you can also visit the local town and explore. We absolutely love exploring little mountain towns. So fun!
Glenwood Springs – Hot Springs and Fun!
Glenwood Springs is a resort city in Colorado known for its hot springs. It sits in the rugged Rocky Mountains, surrounded by the vast White River National Forest. Glenwood Canyon is rich with wildlife and features Hanging Lake, with its striking turquoise waters. Glenwood Caverns are ancient underground caves. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park has roller coasters and canyon swings overlooking the Colorado River.
We absolutely love the hot springs and have had a great time at the Adventure park too.
Dude Ranch – YES Please!
This is something we have not experienced yet but did you know there are actual Dude Ranches in Colorado? C Lazy U Ranch is one that we will be adding to our must visit list. Check out these details! No matter if you’re a family of city slickers or seasoned horseback riders, a Colorado vacation at one of the country’s most celebrated, historic dude ranches is an experience that brings the whole family together. C Lazy U, an all-inclusive, year-round guest ranch in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, offers the best of both worlds: high-class amenities and down-home experiences, with luxurious cabins, gourmet meals, daily trail rides and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy all year round.
C Lazy U offers a packed schedule of activities for adults and children, but families are free to explore the ranch as they wish. Our Kids and Teens Program is perfect for kids of all ages — toddlers get their first taste of ranch life, while teens socialize with their peers — and the adults get to do things their way. At the end of the day, families and other guests gather to share the memories they’ve made that day, swapping stories around a cozy fire or participating in special events with the kids.
Royal Gorge Bridge and Park
“One day, about 3 million years ago, a trickle of water slowly began to carve out a canyon from the solid granite bedrock around it. Little by little, that tiny trickle became the raging Arkansas River, one of the United States’ longest rivers. And that canyon became the Royal Gorge. At approximately 10 miles long and surrounded by red granite walls towering over 1,000 feet, it’s no wonder some of the first American explorers referred to it as the Grand Canyon of the Arkansas.” Royal Gorge Bridge Website.
“The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is more than just your average theme park. It’s a part of Colorado’s history. Bridge construction started back in 1929, but the Gorge itself is millions of years in the making. And even the Royal Gorge Fire of 2013 couldn’t stop the fun and excitement from happening for years to come. The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park: Combining God’s Splendor with Man’s Ingenuity.” Royal Gorge Bridge Website.

Ski Time In Any Mountain Town
Most of the mountain towns have ski resorts nearby. Choose a location you want to explore and add a day of fun on the slopes! Our favorite mountain town is Leadville Colorado. Visit Ski Cooper in Leadville for all-natural snow (which is amazing this year) and spectacular views of Colorado’s highest peaks. Ski Cooper information: 232 County Rd 29, Leadville, CO 80461. Located just off Hwy 24 at the top of Tennessee Pass.

While these are not the only things you could do in Colorado on Spring Break I think it is a great list for you to get started on your upcoming travel plans. It is hard to pick a favorite out of this list but I am super excited to hear if you decide to visit one of these locations this spring break.
