I honestly cannot believe that the last day of the 2019/2020 school year has come and gone. It really does seem like yesterday that Jude and Teagan walked into their 1st grade and 3rd grade classrooms for their first day of school. The last 9 months have been very challenging for the kids for many reason but no matter that rough moments during this school year, I am super proud of what they accomplished this year!
Last Day of School – 2019/2020
Jude and Teagan’s last day of school pictures look a bit different this year. No morning photo before heading off to the classroom…thanks COVID! Instead these photos were taken after dinner in a Dairy Queen parking lot! HA!! Hey, at least they still got their last day of school ice cream treat!!
With school being done remotely for the last two months, the last day of school didn’t have the same excitement as normal but you better believe that both of the kids are so ready for no school work at home for a bit. To be honest, the craziness that this year has brought our family, I am surprised that I remembered I had bought these last day of school chalkboards! So for that, I call this a win because this last day of school is one we need to remember forever!
2019/2020 A Challenge We Will Never Forget
As I sit here and reflect on this school year, I think about how incredibly strong both Jude and Teagan are. Yes, they along with every other child in the world was thrown into a new school setting but they also had to navigate a world that I never thought they would need to explore. The world of living in two homes, a world with parenting schedules and a world of questions about what life will look like now.
While I don’t think there is any great time or perfect situation for a divorce to occur in a child’s life, having it happen during the same year as COVID has been a whole other level of stress for them. It is no surprise that going through a divorce is difficult on everyone in the family but especially for the kids involved, no matter how great the parents are trying to co-parent…now throw in COVID – no school, missing friends, mom and dad working from home, remote learning and the unknown about the virus itself!! SO MUCH!!
When I type this I wonder how their little bodies and minds held it all together but you know what??? They did, and they did it better than I could have imagined. Now let me be clear, remote learning was not always easy but for the most part, both Jude and Teagan worked really hard at the work they were provided. And while it has been so hard missing our friends and gathering for traditions, they are doing great with that as well.
The 2019/2020 school year was a challenge but mostly I see it as a challenge that is teaching both Jude and Teagan how strong they really are, even at their lowest. I hope that we can go back to some kind of normal soon but in the meantime, I’m so proud of these two amazing creatures that drive me crazy…they are such outstanding kiddos!!
Summer Wishes For The Kids
Summer break will not be like normal in fact it is looking like it will be quite a challenge as well with activities being cancelled and most public places closed. But my wish for Jude and Teagan for this summer is to take time to enjoy the small things. Yes, we all need to do that. Enjoy the time we have together as a family and instead of being sad the traditions we are missing we need to create some new ones. Time to get creative and gear up for what the 2020/2021 school year will look like.
We are ready for a new school year with a 2nd grader and a 4th grader!! So exciting…but so sad, they grow up so quickly!!
Here is to a great summer filled with memories, relaxation, regrouping and FUN!!! HAPPY SUMMER BREAK!!!
