I love going on vacation and finishing a book. That is exactly what I did with book 9! I went on a little cabin getaway with some friends and made sure that I did some reading in between the laughs, hot tubs and food. For my 9th book I read The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo. It was a great vacation read I really enjoyed the way Jill Santopolo wrote her book.

The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo
He was the first person to inspire her, to move her, to truly understand her. Was he meant to be the last? Lucy is faced with a life-altering choice. But before she can make her decision, she must start her story–their story–at the very beginning.
Lucy and Gabe meet as seniors at Columbia University on a day that changes both of their lives forever. Together, they decide they want their lives to mean something, to matter. When they meet again a year later, it seems fated–perhaps they’ll find life’s meaning in each other. But then Gabe becomes a photojournalist assigned to the Middle East and Lucy pursues a career in New York. What follows is a thirteen-year journey of dreams, desires, jealousies, betrayals, and, ultimately, of love. Was it fate that brought them together? Is it choice that has kept them away? Their journey takes Lucy and Gabe continents apart, but never out of each other’s hearts.
My Review of The Light We Lost
I have a mixed review of The Light We Lost, yes it was a fun and enjoyable read but there was one piece of this book that I simply cannot get behind. This is one of those time jumper books, moving back and forth through different time periods and seasons of life. Sometimes this kind of book is difficult to stay up with but I found myself turning pages like crazy wanting to know what happens next.
While I loved the tangled and trauma bond love story the piece of this book that I did not enjoy was the affair. I won’t go into too much detail because I do not want to spoil the book for you but I truly cannot get behind the romanticizing of the act of cheating on a partner.
Lucy narrates this book and really thought it was a great way to tell this story. I believe that this is a very unique and emotional read and I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys chic lit or romance novels. This is full of all different kinds of heartbreak but does have you question fate and that so familiar phrase “meant to be”.
Crushing Those Reading Goals!
Book 9 read! I honestly cannot believe how many books I have read so far this year but I am super proud of myself. I have found that setting a goal of reading at least 50 pages a day is really helping me this year. I am always looking for new books to add to my reading list so please share some books you have really enjoyed recently. Make sure you check out my 2021 Reading List and Goal too. Maybe you can add some of my books to your list this year!
