Gaylord Rockies – Summer of More

I am all about experiences over things and one experience that the kids and I love having every summer is a weekend trip to Gaylord Rockies.  It is the perfect staycation less than an hour away from home.  It was a great weekend and we did not want to leave.  There is literally something for everyone at this resort – family activities, delicious food and drinks, amazing views and the breathtaking pool.  No matter what you are looking for in a getaway, the Gaylord Rockies has you covered.

Amazing Views – Instant R&R At Gaylord Rockies

From the moment you walk into the resort you can tell it is going to be a great stay. The building is gorgeous and it seems like there are endless photo opportunities through out the building.

The Gaylord of the Rockies Resort and Convention Center is located off of E-470 and Pena Boulevard in Denver. Just southwest of the Denver Airport.  A great location for those looking for a great place to visit for some great holiday fun for the family.  In true Colorado fashion there is an amazing mountain view of the Rocky Mountains and the Front Range and the interior décor brings a perfect rustic charm to the hotel.  Honestly, my photos do not do this space justice.  It is breathtaking!  Gaylord Rockies is the perfect getaway for the holidays and for summertime, no matter the season, you will enjoy your time at the Gaylord Rockies.

Lodging Info At Gaylord Rockies

No matter what type of room you stay at Gaylord Rockies Resort, you are in for a treat!  I am weird, I love staying at hotels and so do my kids.   We stayed in a Double Queen Room, it was spacious and gave us plenty of room to spread out and relax after a day at the pool.  There are many room options at Gaylord Rockies, no matter if you have a small or large party, you will find comfort in your room.

We are usually only in our room for sleeping but I tell you want, these beds are the best!  I sleep SO GOOD at the Gaylord Rockies.

Food – All The Food!

I promise you will not go hungry when you visit.  There are so many food and drink options at the Gaylord Rockies.  We usually eat at the Mountain Pass Sports Bar for dinner when we check in.  The food is delicious and the space is pretty fun – the 75 -foot flat-panel TV is the talk of the space for sure!  For breakfast we often just pick up some pastries, juice and coffee at the Marketplace and enjoy it poolside but we have also had the breakfast buffet at Vista Montagne.  When we are at the pool we love to order lunch and snacks from Arapahoe Springs Bar & Grill.  Perfect poolside options!

Mountain Pass Sports Bar – Indulge in a casual menu at this Aurora restaurant featuring burgers, sandwiches, salads and draft beer. Catch a game on our 75-foot flat-panel TV, cheer on your favorite team and then stay for dinner.

Vista Montagne –  Start your day with a traditional breakfast or transport yourself to Italy for an unforgettable dinner experience featuring seasonally-inspired Italian cuisine.

Rockies Marketplace – Don’t have time for sit-down restaurant? Before heading out into Aurora, visit our grab-and-go marketplace offering chef-crafted entrees, fresh fruit and alternative snacks.

Arapahoe Springs Bar & Grill – Located next to the resort pool, our outdoor restaurant keeps you cool on a hot Aurora day with an assortment of frozen drinks and cocktails. Satisfy your appetite with our delectable dinner menu that includes burgers, wraps, salads and sweet treats.

Pinyons – A hot spot to gather for an eclectic-inspired cocktail or handcrafted drink in the Grand Lodge. Perfect for late-night noshing.

Old Hickory Steakhouse – After your day in Aurora, join us for a memorable dinner as you dine in the romantic atmosphere of Old Hickory Steakhouse restaurant, offering the highest quality beef, fresh seafood, artisanal cheeses, table-side desserts and fine wines.

Monte Jade – TAKE OUT ONLY Monte Jade Express offers a variety of Asian-inspired dishes via take out service on the weekends.

The Cocoa Bean – Proudly serving Starbucks® coffee. Choose from premium coffee drinks, fresh bakery items, and gourmet sandwiches.

Activities Around the Resort

Gaylord Rockies has so many activities that will keep everyone busy and having fun. The New Grand Lodge Lawn is absolutely stunning and is such a great addition to the resort.  There are multiple fire pits and sitting areas where you can roast s’mores and a number of fun lawn game options. Jude and Teagan enjoyed playing giant chess, bocce ball and cornhole after dinner.

There is also an Escape Room, Scavenger Hunts, Adventure Kid’s Club, and Animal Encounters for families and kids to enjoy.  Gaylord Rockies wants the adults to play too! Make sure you check out the Summer Wine Dinner Series, cocktail classes, Summer Dinner Beer Series, and services at the Relâche Spa.  I have not experienced the Spa yet, but one day I am going to leave the kids at home and have a mom day at the resort for sure!

Jude found the basketball, tennis and pickleball courts and made sure to take time each day we were at the resort for a little basketball.  The resort allows for each person to find their own activities when necessary.  I love that he and I feel comfortable enough for him to go to the courts on his own while Teagan and I continued our pool and sun time.

Pool Fun For Days

Gaylord Rockies pool area is our favorite place to spend a day at the pool any time of the year.  Arapahoe Springs Water Park is a must visit. Enjoying the beautiful Colorado summertime weather poolside is my kind of staycation!

This space is an exclusive amenity for resort guests. Arapahoe Springs Outdoor Water Park offers a heated outdoor pool, waterslide, lazy river, and sunbathing decks. Outdoor whirlpools complete the complex and provide plenty of water fun for the whole family to enjoy. The outdoor pool is heated and open year-round. The Indoor Pool is currently closed.

When we visit we spend hours in the pool.  It never feels cold or overly crowded and the kids always make new friends while playing in the pool.

Living The Cabana Life

We spent most of our day at Arapahoe Springs enjoying the pool and our cabana.  There are multiple cabanas available through along the pool deck and lazy river.  Cabanas seat up to 6 guests in a covered, relaxing environment out of the Colorado sun. Cabanas feature a comfortable sofa, television, mini fridge, and an outlet perfect for charging mobile devices. Cabanas provide prime access to the outdoor pool and lazy river and are a perfect setting for a day at Arapahoe Springs.

We have experiences multiple cabanas but this was our first year at one of the Lazy River Cabanas and I loved it.  It was away from the busier main pool but we could jump right into the Lazy River.  Our server, Ethan, was amazing.  He checked on us through out the day to make sure we didn’t need anything and when we were ready for lunch, drinks or snacks he was right there to help us.  The cabana life truly helps you relax and feel like you are on vacation.  It is a great option for families that want to make sure they have space to get out of the sun or to have younger kids (or us tired adults) take a nap out of the sun.

Safe Travels – Staycation Option

This was our 7th time visiting Gaylord Rockies, it is one of my favorite places to spend a weekend with my kids.  Travel is super important to me and I love giving my kids these experiences but as a single mom, traveling can be intimidating and scary.  Finding a place like Gaylord Rockies for me and my children to enjoy and feel safe is a great feeling.  Since everything you need to enjoy your time away is right here on the resort you do not have to leave.  Gaylord Rockies makes it easy for parents to create a great time in one place without traveling away from the resort.

Jude, Teagan and I have created some amazing memories during our staycations at Gaylord Rockies and I cannot wait to make more.  I highly recommend this resort for everyone – no matter your family situation, ages of your kids or interests of your family.  You will all enjoy your time.

Make it a summer vacation to remember at Gaylord Rockies Resort!
