Celebrate spring by turning your favorite pretzel snacks into these adorable sprinkle and candy-filled edible Spring Pretzel Butterflies! Pretzel Butterflies are not only a tasty treat, but also a great edible project to bring out the creativity in kids of all ages.

Spring Pretzel Butterflies

Spring is in the air and getting creative with our snacks just got a little more fun.  The kids and I love popcorn treats and pretzels – especially on movie night.  I decided to take our candy coated snack a step further for a cute and delicious snack that is perfect for a fun evening at home or for a spring or summer birthday party.  These Spring Pretzel Butterflies are sure to be a hit with anyone who loves a good sweet and salty treat.

Ingredients:

24 hard pretzels
15-20 purple candy melts
2 TBSP nonpareils
1/2 cup yellow candy melts
6 pretzel sticks

Yields: 12 butterfly pretzel snacks

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees.

2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and line up the 24 pretzels.

3. Place purple candy melts in a plastic sandwich bag and use a meat pounder or rolling pin to crush the candy melts into small bits.

4. Add broken candy melts into the cavities of each pretzel.

5. Bake for 2-3 minutes.

6. Remove from oven and use a toothpick to evenly spread the melted candy melts in each of the pretzel’s cavities. Sprinkle with nonpareils.

7. Allow the pretzels to set, about 20 minutes.

8. Line a separate pan with wax paper.

9. Place yellow candy melts into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervals, mixing between each interval, until completely melted.

10. Break each pretzel stick in half and dip each one in melted candy.

11. Place coated pretzel stick on wax paper and attach 2 purple pretzels on either side.

12. Repeat for every pretzel stick.  Allow to set. Serve and enjoy!

A Sweet and Salty Treat

While these cute butterfly pretzels might take a little time to create they are so worth it.  The bright colors make me think and feel spring!  And the sweet and salty treat is the best in my opinion.  So good!!  The kids had a great time putting these butterflies together…now I am excited to find the perfect party or gathering that these sweet treats would be perfect for.
